[9/8/2012 6:56:15 PM] Thuan Thi Do: Yet it is not for long that we can retain the etheric body after death. Belonging as it does to the entire Cosmos, the ether-body is always wanting to expand. Even during life, if we lost hold of our physical body for a single instant, our ether-body would at once be tending — drawing as it were by an elastic power — to dissolve into the whole Cosmos. Only the physical body, in which it stays throughout our life, holds it together. And then when the physical body’s coherent power, is no longer ours, straightway the ether-body begins to expand, so much so that in a few days' time it is there for us no longer. It is as when you take a little drop of water; the drop is there before you; warm it and it evaporates and expands in all directions; then it is there no more — you can no longer see it. So does the ether-body expand into the Cosmos after death; after a very few days it is there no more.

[9/8/2012 7:00:59 PM] Thuan Thi Do: When the physical body dies, the etheric body also does not survive and dies soon afterwards (at most after a couple of days) - the sooner it does, the better for the person. However, the elementals that make up the etheric body sometimes may instinctively struggle to prolong its life and make it more difficult for the soul and its other bodies to separate from it. In this case, it is best for the human to use his will (sankalpa) to separate from the etheric body which will die soon anyway

As a person, he is intrinsically exactly the same - emotionally, mentally, spiritually - he just does not have a physical body any more. On his first arrival here, he is often met by friends and relatives who have passed on before him and are still in the astral world. There are also 'helpers' whose mission is to ease the transition for humans who have recently died.

[9/8/2012 8:03:19 PM] Thuan Thi Do: Although Theosophical and New Age writers often speak of every subtle body or vehicle of consciousness possessing chakras, and describe these chakras as energy vortexes or whatever, it is really only the Etheric body that is so endowed. This is because any higher bodies, being non-physical, do not have a specific form, but take on or imitate the form of the Etheric and/or the Physical bodies.

Chakras are intersections of two or more nadis. Because there are so many nadis, there are literally uncounted numbers of chakras in the astral body. The chakras are the mechanisms by which the prana is able to permeate the physical body from the astral body, and basically then, it is the prana that keeps the physical body alive. Purification of nadis is critical to good health so that a balanced level of prana can flow throughout the nadis and chakra systems. Impure nadis cause blockages of the prana and this is what leads to disease in the physical body.
